As of 1 January 2004, what was previously known as the "Statistics Group" received status as a centre connected to the Department of Finance, on which occasion the name was changed to the Center for Statistics. The Statistics Group had been an interim solution for what was left over from the Department of Management Science and Statistics - after the restructuring that took place at CBS in 1998.

In regard to teaching, the Center for Statistics is responsible for almost all the statistics courses taught at CBS, including the main statistics courses for the BSc and HD programmes and the more advanced courses forming part of the BSc in Business Administration and Management Science programme.
