PhD-project: Managing Prevention in Clinical and Home Settings
The issue of prevention dominates health politics today. The political focus on lifestyle diseases and chronic illnesses articulates a joint responsibility for public health which cuts across the traditional boundary between the public and private. But how does this articulation of a joint responsibility manifest itself in practice?
My project is an ethnographic study of a prevention program in the Danish healthcare system. It explores how prevention is practiced by health professionals in the clinical setting as well as how it is practiced by patients in their home setting and thus investigates how prevention operates across the public/private boundary.
The project sheds light on how prevention emerges and changes as it moves within and across different spaces, knowledge-forms, life-worlds, technologies, and materials over time. On these grounds, it asks how is prevention managed by hospital management, health professionals and patients?
