In my dissertation I focus on the connection between the Danish national bank, Danish currency and the emergence of a Danish national identity. Through an empirical analysis of important historical monetary events I trace the effects of the national currency in relation to the creation of a sense of collective Danish identity. Also, I am concerned with the role of the national bank in cultivating a unique national identity in the general population.
