Both Maersk Line, IBM, ISO, and the US Department of Justice contributed significantly to the international society’s formation. My main professional focus the development of business and public organizations and their role in societal change. I work on this through my research, project supervision, and teaching. I have particularly have studied the interaction between companies’ organizational and technical change in Denmark, Europe and North America. Social constructivism is my theoretical background.
I am now working on a comparative study of IT industry in the United States, Great Britain, (West) Germany, and France between the end of the nineteenth century and 1980. The main focus is the interaction between market and producers. I completed a book on the punched card industry between the end of the nineteenth century and the Second World War which will appear in 2009. I am now working on the history of the mainframe computer and machine tool industry. Also, I am working in an international consortium on the project "The Emergence and Governance of Critical Transnational Infrastructures (Eurocrit)". My contribution is the project "Air Traffic Control: Facilitating Transnational Trust trough Governance and Technology".
