My research uses behavioural decision research methods to model, elicit and analyse individuals’ risk perceptions and decision-making processes, with an objective of informing and aiding decision-making processes. My current research applies these methods to medical professionals’ and patients’ decisions regarding asymptomatic or future disease. I am also examining consumer insurance decisions, farmers’ perceptions of microbial risks, mining managers’ perceptions of health and safety technology adoption, and how researchers obtain, organize and share information. In the past I have researched how small-group work is mediated by collaborative technologies, adolescent risk behaviours, and policymaking concerning hearing impairment in drivers.
Primary research areas
- Behavioral decision research
- Shared medical professional/patient decision making
- Risk perception and risk communication
- Consumer insurance decisions
- User-centered innovation
