Learn to manage yourself on-line

Do you know the feeling?
The kids have to be picked up from daycare, and you leave your office earlier than planned. But hey - you can always check your e-mail, when the kids are sleeping. You are not the only one thinking like this. The majority of Danes have more and more influence on their professional life. They have the freedom to plan their own working day and the freedom to decide when it's time for work and when it's time for play. But where is the limit? When is it time to shut down the computer and put your phone on "gone for the rest of the day"?
A tool for reflection
Assistant Professor at CBS Anders Raastrup Kristensen has been in charge of the development of the web portal ArbejdsArenaen.dk (the Work Arena), a tool to help managers and employees to understand how to mange themselves and others in modern working life.
- The portal doesn't provide a unique solution to job satisfaction problems, but guides the user through a number of scenarios and dilemmas, giving rise to reflection. Only by knowing the challenges we face, we start to reflect on them with an aim to handle them better. The solution must be found in management and a constant reflection from both employee and manager, says Anders Raastrup Kristensen.
Laziness labyrinth or Deadline dance?
When the portal is launched, you will be able to click around among games and exercises accompanied by a multitude of colours and pictures. Check out if you are the lazy or the optimising type? Or try to manage self-managing employees in the Deadline dance.
- The aim of the portal is to give the user an experience and make him feel and see and instead of hearing and reading about it. Instead of communicating to the user's brain, we want to create a feeling and communicate to the heart. We open up to new understandings through our hearts. It's by knowing our challenges better that we learn how to create a great framework for our professional life, says Anders Raastrup Kristensen.
