Svend E. Hougaard Jensen is a professor of economics at the Copenhagen Business School, a Research Fellow of Netspar (Network for Studies in Pensions, Aging and Retirement), and a Fellow of WDA (World Demographic Association). He graduated with a MSc (Econ) degree from the University of Aarhus and an MA (Econ) degree from the University of Manchester (UK), before earning his PhD (Econ) from the University of London (UK) in 1990. On leave from academia, Hougaard Jensen has served as head of the Division of Economic Analysis within the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) in Denmark. He has published numerous articles in learned journals and books, and he is the author/editor of several books, including Fiscal Aspects of European Monetary Integration (CUP, 1999), Using Dynamic General Equilibrium Models for Policy Analysis (North-Holland, 2000) and Uncertain Demographics and Fiscal Sustainability (CUP, 2008). Hougaard Jensen has also written many policy-oriented papers in Danish/Nordic journals, and he has contributed to agency and government reports. His research has mainly been within the areas of macroeconomics, population economics and international economics, focusing on topics such as pensions, debt sustainability, stabilisation policy in monetary unions, structural reforms in the European Union, and productivity measurement. Hougaard Jensen is a referee for several international journals, and he has served on various assessment committees.
