The market for health care is characterized by asymmetric information. One of my projects analyses welfare implications of financing health care by taxes, private insurance or a combination. In private insurance moral hazard and overconsumption is counteracted by excess and sharing of expenses among insurance companies, in public health care free of charge waiting lists emerge instead. Public health care with rationing is compared to private health care with user charges and private insurance.
Another project relates to television broadcasting; market structure, financing and programming. A model of advertiser-financed television with public and private channels analyses effects on program diversity and advertising revenues of privatisation of publicly owned channels.
A new project in international economics and financing focuses on financial integration of economically less well-off countries with more developed economies. Welfare effects of a gradual integration based on regions are considered.
