His research combines Managerial Economics, Accounting, Finance and Investment with Sociology and Institutional Theory. This interdisciplinary curiosity focuses on the ability to model, calculate and optimize various financial business issues and to debate and thoughtfully reflect upon their techno-logic and their role in organizations and society.
His research and teaching activities focus on the maritime industry and involve companies and organizations from the industry.

Carsten Ørts Hansen is an experienced organizer of co-operation between CBS and the business community, including funding and managing research projects. He participates in the maritime research network at CBS focusing on the maritime industry. The network involves researchers across departments at CBS as well as participants in the industry. The research activities are funded by the industry, public organisations and CBS.

6) Teaching activities
- Responsible for the course “International Shipping & Transport” at the diploma program (HD, Part 2) in Supply Chain Management. From fall 2012 the course will focus exclusively on international shipping, while the more general transportation issues will be separated out in an individual course.
- Cand.Merc. course: Developments in International Shipping (part of the Minor in Maritime Business)
- Responsible for the final project at the diploma program (HD, Part 1) with approx 520 students.
- Counseling and supervise Diploma Theses and Master Degree theses with shipping and other maritime businesses as main focus. Provides illustrative teaching case material, home assignments and exam cases about the maritime sector into various classes taught at CBS.
- Responsible for the teaching in Management Accounting and Finance in the bachelor study programme Business Administration and Politics and in the bachelor study programme Business Administration and Communication.
