Supply Chains

Supply Chains

Supply Chains is a project placed under the Centre for Logistics and Freight Transport (CLG), the Technical University of Denmark. The project is headed by professor Tage Skjøtt-Larsen, Department of Operations Management, Copenhagen Business School.
The project is headed by professor Tage Skjøtt-Larsen, Department of Operations Management, Copenhagen Business School.
Other participants:
  • Aage Michelsen, associate professor, Department of Manufacturing Engineering and Management, the Technical University of Denmark
  • Prabir K. Bagchi, professor, George Washington University, Washington D.C., USA
Herbert Kotzab, associate professor, Department of Operations Management, Copenhagen Business School
  • Árni Halldórsson, assistant professor, Department of Operations Management, Copenhagen Business School
  • Lars Bøge Sørensen, Ph.D. student, Department of Operations Management, Copenhagen Business School
  • Kim Bjergelund, Ph.D. student, Department of Manufacturing Engineering and Management, the Technical University of Denmark.
The objective of the project is to produce new knowledge of how supply chains are developed, configured, organised and managed. Furthermore, the intention is to define performance targets for supply chains and identify relationships between structures and performance targets. Finally, the objective is to suggest new cooperation models in supply chains in the light of the prospects that new IT and communication systems offer.
Many Danish companies are actors in global supply chains. Therefore, there is a need to know, which configurations of supply chains are most appropriate under various conditions. An empirical analysis of different structures and cooperation forms will be a valuable input to decision-makers in Danish business.
There is only limited knowledge on the key performance indicators applicable in measuring and controlling supply chains, just as knowledge is lacking on the relationship between configuration and internal and external efficiency. The project will add to this knowledge by including international researchers in a collaboration project.
Management and organisation of supply chains make specific demands on team management, distribution of benefits/risks, integration of information systems and mechanisms for developing competences. The project will be able to contribute with both Danish and international research results in the field.
Transport companies are increasingly included as integrated partners in supply chains. The project "third party logistics" will contribute with knowledge on how competences are developed and distribution of roles and power is changed between the parties in third party logistics collaboration.
