SELECTED LIST OF RESEARCH PROJECTS

“Responsible business in the blogosphere” holds the official research title: “Measurement Systems for Ethical Capital in the Experience Economy. Socio-Economic Value of Online Communication” (2009-2012). The purpose of this 3-year research project is to investigate how corporate reputations as “responsible business” are constructed online in virtual social networks. The research project will analyze the socio-economic value of such virtual construction of “responsible business”, i.e. perceptions of corporate economic, social and environmental responsibility – what is referred to as ethical capital. The project will develop new measurement methods that take into account the creation and influence of collective online-user’s opinions about companies that affects corporate value creation. The research project is funded by Det Strategiske Forskningsråd within the Danish Ministry of Science and is conducted in collaboration with Technical University of Denmark (DTU).

“CSR in HR – an empirical investigation of the financial sector” is a research project investigating how the financial sector applies CSR in their competence development to attract and retain highly qualified managers and employees. I chair the project. The project assumes the financial sector to serve as “best practice” since it is one of the sectors known to invest most in HR development. The project has a Strategy Forum with CEOs and a Working Forum consisting of HR managers. The project is supported by FUHU’s Forum for Business Education.

“Strategic CSR Communication” is a research project exploring the corporate challenges as companies present themselves as ethical or moral entities towards external and internal audiences. It involves empirical and longitudinal studies as well as surveys. The project was supported by NOS and has gathered a group of Nordic scholars to explore the issue of Nordic CSR Communication. PriceWaterhouseCoopers supports the initiative by co-funding a ph.d. student.

“CSR-driven innovation” is one of the research projects in the Nordic Center for Corporate Responsibility. It is supported by the Danish Agency of Companies and Commerce, TrygVesta, Region Sjælland and Nordic Innovation Council. It explores how small and medium-sized enterprises in the Nordic countries integrate CSR for the purpose of business innovation.

Participation in one year research project on “CSR as a means to improve the Working Environment in SMEs?” in collaboration with The Danish Research Institute for the Working Environment (June 2006-May 2007). The project is supported by the National Foundation for the Working Environment. The collaboration has lead to the formulation of a second research proposal which will be decided in June 2008.

Chair of the research network “Nordic Center for Corporate Responsibility” (NCCR) - in collaboration with a network of Nordic academic partners: Stockholm School of Economics, Helsinki School of Management, Reykjavik University, and BI Norwegian School of Management. This project is supported by a large donation from Mads Øvlisen as he resigned as Chair of Novo Nordisk.

As a research project manager. Morsing chaired the National Research Research Panel on “CSR in SMEs in Denmark”, as part of the People and Profit project which is funded by EUs Social Foundation and Agency for Employment, and headed by the Danish Agency for Commerce and Companies under the Danish Ministry of Commerce and Trade. The research project involves 14 research colleagues from Copenhagen University, Roskilde University, Ålborg University, University of Southern Denmark, Århus Business School, Denmark’s Technical University and the National Council of Social Research. Besides research networking, the concrete outcomes are a 1) conference on CSR in SMEs in October 2006 and 2) an edited volume to appear at Børsens Forlag.

“The European Platform for CSR Excellence”. From 2004 till 2007. In collaboration with The European Academy of Business in Society (EABIS), Cranfield School of Management, Warwick Business School, Insead, Esade, Leuven Gent, The Copenhagen Centre and efmd (European foundation for management development), Morsing received on behalf of CBS Center for Corporate Social Responsibility a research grant from the EU Commission under the 6th framework to coordinate and develop research activities on the issue of CSR in Europe, i.e. to develop "The European Platform for CSR Excellence". Responsible for CBS’s collaboration with the European partners in 2 work packages: “European CSR Network for Scholars” and “European CSR Network for Young Scholars” with a particular focus on exploring inter-disciplinary challenges for CSR research.

”Corporate Values in Danish Corporations”. In 2000/2001 this research project investigated 300 Danish private and public companies’ rhetorics and practices around corporate values. It included quantitative and qualitative research methods and involved heading a team of 6 research assistants. Børsens Nyhedsmagasin (The Danish equivalent of Financial Times Magazine) funded the research project and published the results in September 2001.

“Cross-Cultural Communication: Transnational Transfer of Values and Responsibility in International Companies”. Study of Novo Nordisk’s Facilitators. With professor Nigel Holden, CBS/Mancehster Business School. Financial support from CBSs Communication Research Fund, 1999.

"Intra-Organizational Cooperation”. The project was a cooperation in 1996-2000 between researchers, consultants and managers with the ambition of advancing knowledge about cooperation, learning and communication across organizational units and hierarchies. Participating companies were: Carlsberg A/S, Maersk Medical, Coro Foods, Hansen Doors and Ruko. A large research grant was given from the Danish employers’ association: Confederation of Danish Industries (DI).

“Organisational Identity Change – An Empirical Study of Change in the Danish Hearing Company Oticon”. For the period of 1990-1993, Morsing received a scholarship from the Academy of Technical Sciences and Oticon A/S to conduct a three year research project on organizational identity change based on empirical studies.
