My research has a focus on multiple cultures, identity constructions and communication in organizational change processes. I have been involved in longitudinal case studies of international mergers and acquisitions, and in recent years I have extended my focus on private corporations to include mergers of public institutions. My main research interest is to study how managers and employees make sense of and give sense to complex organizational changes. I am also concerned about the strategic roles of HR and Communications in post-merger integration processes and take an interest in studying how communication tasks and activities are organized across staff functions and business areas to serve strategic functions.
In the interdisciplinary research project ’Cultural Intelligence as a Strategic Resource’ (2008-2011) we study intercultural learning processes among managers and employees in globalizing companies, as well as the organizational conditions for developing cultural intelligence.
I am main responsible for ethnographic studies of global development teams in the interdisciplinary research programme ‘Next Generation Technology for Global Software Development’. This project, which is funded by the Danish Strategic Research Council 2011-2015, is a collaborative effort between the IT University of Denmark, CBS and Indian Institute of Management Bangalore and some global IT companies.
Conceptually, my work is drawing mainly on discourse, identity and culture theories, and on critical approaches to organization and management studies.
