Neither academic researchers nor business practitioners have effectively explored the reasons businesses choose to align or decouple their ethics and corporate social responsibility strategies. This is the gap that my PhD research will attempt to fill. As the Director of Ethics for KPMG LLP (US firm) and a PhD fellow affiliated with cbsCSR, I will leverage my experience as both a practioner and a researcher to explore the impact that alignment and decoupling have on companies in both the United States and in Europe.
