My research interest is communication and competence in organizations in a global perspective:
I am presently planning a research project in Japan (2012-13) exploring communication strategy and the relation between Japanese headquarters and subsidiary/partner in China.
I was responsible for Japan research (2008-2011) in the project:
Cultural Intelligence as a strategic ressource
funded by the Danish Strategic Research Council. The focus of study was globalization processes and human resource challenges in five Danish multinationals - Vestas, Carlsberg, Grundfos, Novozymes and Ecco -with special focus on operations in China, Japan, India and Malaysia.
I directed a LOK project, (2004-6) with focus on communication, cross cultural competence and knowledge sharing between Danish companies and their subsidiary/alliances in Japan. The project was funded by the Danish Research Council and Danish business: Ecco, Bang & Olufsen, Rosendahl, Visit Denmark and Bo Bendixen. I interviewed 50 global managers from Denmark and Japan concerning their co-operation and cultural challenges in knowledge sharing and implementation of strategies in Japan.
For one and a half year I was part of the Unesco supported international news flow study. I was part of the research team at Keio University in Japan where I observed the political decision-making processes in the newsrooms at the public service station NHK and the commercial station TV Asahi. I interviewed 40 journalists, foreign correspondents, editors and popular anchors at the five Japanese national news producers about their production of international news and made comparative studies of Danish and Japanese news programs.
