Anne-Marie Søderberg is DEAs Business Researcher 2009

12.11.2009

For many years the focus of Anne-Marie Søderberg’s research has been the organizational behavior of Danish companies in the global arena. It has been carried out in studies of international mergers and acquisitions, which have attracted the attention of international researchers as well as business leaders. Since 2008 she has directed the research project ‘Cultural Intelligence as a Strategic Resource’ where the research group collaborates closely with 5 multinational companies and 5 small and medium sized ‘Born Globals’, which are all active players in the Asian growth markets.
Anne-Marie Søderberg states: I am very pleased to receive this great recognition of my research and its contribution to the improvement of the innovation and competitiveness of Danish businesses. I have chosen to utilize my background in Humanities to emphasize the role of cultures, identities and communications in a global business context, whether it is concerned with mergers or research and development across language, cultures and country borders. In my empirical studies I have always benefitted from working in dialogue with the actors, whose everyday life I was studying. Today this approach is sometimes termed ‘Engaged Scholarship’, and we very much put this into practice in the research group that constitutes ‘Cultural Intelligence as a Strategic Resource’.
The award committee points out that Anne-Marie Søderberg also has developed new ways of collaboration and knowledge development in dialogue between researchers and businesses:
- Anne-Marie Søderberg’s research involves the companies in new and groundbreaking ways, for example by establishing actual partnerships with the companies. Such interplay between research and the surrounding world may contribute to setting new standards within business studies, claims Jørn Lund, President of the Award Committee for Culture & Communications.
The intent og DEA’s Business Research Award is to further develop research communications and strengthen the cooperation between research and business, in order to sharpen the companies’ innovation and competitive capacity through knowledge sharing. The Business Researcher Award is presented every year in two areas of research: Culture & Communications and Society & Business. The award pays tribute to Danish researchers who are outstanding in establishing collaboration between research and business.
In addition to the honor a prize of 200,000 kr. is awarded. It is expected to be used for studies abroad for the improvement of the development of research communications in Denmark.
