My research concerns the current restructuring experienced by industry in the globalization process – primarily as outsource, off shoring and engagement in global value chains. Focus is on pharmaceutical industry and the agro-food sector. Furthermore I am interested in global governance, the institutional framework in which the value chains are formed, mainly the WTO and UNFCCC.
I am involved in the EU FP7 research program, INGINEUS (
www.ingineus.eu
) , which investigates:
1. How global production networks increasingly include flows of knowledge and innovation networks.
2. How knowledge intensive activities and innovation more generally takes place in ‘emerging economies’ (China, India, South Africa and Brazil), and
3. The consequences for the European Union and the emerging ecomomies respectively.
Primary research areas
- Socio-economic geography
- Global Value Chains
- Innovation networks
- Knowledge intensive industries
- Climate and technology transfer
- Trade and Development
- WTO - World Trade Organisation
