PhD defence: Guðrið Weihe

Friday 31 October 2008, 14.00 - 16.00, room PH 407
For the defence of the PhD degree Guðrið Weihe, International Center for Business and Politics, has submitted her thesis entitled:
Public-Private Partnerships: Meaning and Practice
The dissertation unravels the conceptual perplexities that characterize the debate on public-private partnerships (PPPs). Weihe’s research provides a new understanding of how participants within PPPs develop relationships once contracts have been signed. Previous research on PPPs has been dominated by a concern with technical, legal and financial issues in the pre-contract phase. This dissertation provides a relational approach that provides a new typology of PPPs and fills in an important gap in the literature by specifying how PPPs operate in practice. As Weihe demonstrates, crucial to the management of PPPs in practice are participants’ perceptions of trust, reciprocity, joint decision-making processes, and performance.
