Prerequisite/progression of the course

This program is designed for those who are interested in teaching Chinese or will soon become employed as Chinese language teachers in Danish elementary schools or language schools run by local Chinese in Denmark. The course is focused on Chinese teaching materials recommended by Hanban (Confucius Institute Headquarters in China) and other relevant handbooks and teaching resources.

Aim of the course

Through the course, participants can get a better understanding of Chinese teaching materials and handbooks, which are recommended by Hanban and can be used in Danish elementary, upper-secondary schools and even universities. Participants will be instructed on how to use these materials. Teaching books that will be introduced during the course include: “New Practical Chinese Reader”, "Contemporary Chinese", "Chinese Paradise", "Happy Chinese", "Learn Chinese with Me", "International Curriculum for Chinese Language Education", "My Chinese Picture Dictionary", "My Little Chinese Picture Dictionary" and "Essential Chinese Dictionary (800 essential Chinese characters)".

Course content, structure and teaching

This program consists of 1 session or more, depending on participants’ needs and requests. Each session has a duration of 3 hours.

The program is designed to introduce participants to: the purpose of writing the teaching books and handbooks mentioned above; thoughts behind and features of these books; constructions and contents of the books; groups the books apply to, optimal use of the books, etc.

Time: last Friday of every month between February 24 to May 25, 2012, both dates included.

		Lesson1: Introduce Chinese teaching resources: "International Curriculum for Chinese Language Education", "My Chinese Picture Dictionary", "My Little Chinese Picture Dictionary" and "Essential Chinese Dictionary (800 essential Chinese characters)". Questions and dicussion.
		Lesson 2: Introduce Chinese teaching materials designed for elementary and upper-secondary school students:”Happy Chinese”, ”Chinese Paradise” and ”Learn Chinese with Me”. Questions and dicussion.
		Lesson 3: Introduce teaching materials designed for university students: “New Practical Chinese Reader” and “Contemporary Chinese”. Questions and dicussion.

Learning Objectives

The course gives participants the necessary knowledge to select more suitable Chinese teaching materials and handbooks for future teaching purpose.

Course literature

The course is based on materials compiled and written by course teachers. Additional materials include Chinese textbooks and teaching resources mentioned above.
