Research Profile

The Center for the Study of the Americas encourages research, dialogue and discussion around political, economic, and cultural issues within both North and South America. It also considers the impact of developments within the Americas upon Denmark and other European countries. The center’s work is structured around three research clusters, each of which consists of one or more research projects (see separate item in the menu to the left):
  • Political culture, politics and governance surveys long-term cultural shifts within the US and the countries of Latin America and their impact upon politics. It also considers electoral processes, ideologies, structures and representations of power, the making of public policy, and the character of different government systems.

  • Multiculturalism, immigration and identity discourses: this project field analyzes the character of migration processes, and their relation to multiculturalism, identity discourses and human rights in the Americas, taking into account their historical dimension and comparisons with other areas. Identity discourses looks at national, ethnic, political and other forms of identity discourse and the ways in which these are represented and expressed in popular culture and social imaginary.

  • Transatlantic studies: at the center, particular focus within transatlantic studies is on political culture and human rights issues.
The center will, in particular, foster studies that have a direct relevance to business, government agencies, and the media - which are based upon integrated multidisciplinary and transnational approaches to the American continents, and which have an empirical as well as a theoretical character.
The center seeks to establish research partnerships within Copenhagen Business School and across Denmark and at the same time create long-term collaborative relationships with researchers in other European countries and the Americas.
