My research is primarily concerned with understanding how we can organize research and innovation more effectively.
I am particularly interested in the role that universities play in the development of new science and technology. In spring 2007, I completed a Ph.D. dissertation, which examines how we can strive for a more effective utilization of the public funds that are channeled into research and innovation through a more informed understanding of the role of university research. The dissertation, which is available for download here, examines the broader implications of academic enterprise, that is, the increasing involvement of industry in academic research and the heightened focus on patenting and commercialization of publicly funded research results.
I am currently working on a research project under the
Research Centre on Biotech Business
, which examines how the organization of academic research affects the efficiency with which public research is brought to bear on the development of biomedical innovations. The project examines whether (and, if so, by what mechanisms)
translational research influences the effectiveness of academic research and its application to the development of, for example, new pharmaceuticals and clinical practice, by bridging basic and clinical research.
I am moreover affiliated with the
Danish Research Unit for Industrial Dynamics (
DRUID
). Also, please feel free to contact me with questions regarding the Academic and Professional Development Program (
APD
) for PhD students at CBS.
