Find articles and books at one go
06.09.2011
CBS Library presents a new tool for searching. Previously you had to search books in one place and articles in another. Now everything has been collapsed into one search system.
Libsearch is your single point of entry to searching 20 resources provided by CBS Library. These resources contain various kinds of texts, ranging from articles and books to CBS theses and research papers. What is new is that you can search it all at one go.
More than 250.000.000 titles at one go
Libsearch consists of large quantities of data drawn from various search tools and collapsed into one system to make them all available through a single search box.
Most of the Libsearch contents are made up from articles, the vast majority of which can be accessed online. You can still search books, both printed and electronic.
As a new feature you can now search outside CBS Library holdings by selecting “Expand beyond library collections”. This search will generate a more extensive list of results but will also include non-CBS subject areas.
The success of your search depends on your search terms
When searching for articles and books on a specific subject you need to take care to select the appropriate search terms in order to generate concise and relevant results.
- Brain storm relevant search terms
- Identify synonyms
- Be aware of number and spelling
Libsearch offers various limitation options and search term suggestions that can help you narrow your search. You will find these in the left hand menu.
Libsearch is a fantastic tool when looking for a book from the curriculum list or an article from a bibliography, simply because you are searching a much larger pool of resources than previously.
Explains Mette Bechmann, librarian and information retrieval teacher.
