1922: The Library was founded by Knud Larsen, MTh, and was located in the Library of the School of Commerce building in Copenhagen.
1927: The Library was moved to Julius Thomsens Plads.
1935: The Library introduced a classification system based on the linguist Karl Verner’s model, as the decimal system was not believed to be appropriate for a specialised library.
1966: The Library introduced computerised catalogues of the Library’s open-shelf collection.
1973: The management of the Library is carried out by the Library’s Internal Management Group (BIS), comprising 8 members.
1982: The first initiatives were taken towards establishing an on-line database with a search function comprising approx. 80,000 catalogued books (1965 -).
1988: The Library installed its new on-line library system, Hermes, in September 1988. The Language Library was moved to the new building in Dalgas Have. BIS was replaced in part by a coordinating committee and in part by a liaison committee. The coordinating committee cannot make decisions without the consent of the Director, Library Services.
1985: The Economics Library was moved to new facilities in Rosenørns Allé 31.
1991: Cash registers were acquired for the administration of recently introduced late-return fines.
1995: Establishment of structured access to the Internet through the use of Gopher. Opening of the Electronic Study Centre with 18 PC workstations at the Economics Library. The internet access solution is launched as as Campus Wide Information System (CWIS).
The CBS-Web Secretariat is based in the Library's IT Department.
1999: After having been closed down for 2 weeks, the Economics Library is re-opened in the new 4-storey library on Solbjerg Plads.
2000: Central organisation: Library and IT-services.
2001: In extension of its services, the Library offers 'faculty librarians' to all departments and centres. Likewise, remote access to electronic journals and databases is made available to CBS staff, faculty and students.
2002: The library opening hours are extended to include public holidays. Library correspondance in the form of recall and reservation notices is issued by e-mail. Cuts in library budgets result in the dismissal of four employees.
2003: The library launches CBS' new expert database: Experts@CBS. Organisational ties between the library and CBS' IT Services are severed with the transfer of IT Services to CBS' Administration.
2004: In April the library signed a letter of intent with the Swedish company Axiell, who will act as a development partner for a new library system - BookIT. By opening a knowledge portal on CBS' website the library has coordinated its research communication activites, greatly contributing to the visibility of CBS' research.
2005: In order to improve the study environment for CBS students a 'CBS only zone' was implemented as well as adding 50 more study seats at 2nd floor. CBS' new content management system was implemented in full scale.
2006: The library's new affiliation at Porcelænshaven was opened - a reading room with 80 seats and librarian service weekdays 9 am - 4 pm.
The CBS Library introduces online payment of fines and bills.
2008: CBS students now enjoy access to the Reading Room at Porcelænshaven round the clock. Passes issued by the Library enable CBS students to use the facilities outside standard opening hours (7.30-22.30).
The Library introduces text messaging services notifying patrons of the imminent return of library items and the arrival of reserved materials.
The CBS Library initiates a project leading to the acquisition of a new library system.
2009: The CBS Library establishes a Conference Secretariat to support the planning and organization of international conferences at CBS.
2010: The CBS Library changes library systems because development of the present library system, BookIT, has been discontinued for the Danish market. The choise fell on
