Conference: The Role of Marketing in Danish Companies
Marketing is an area spending considerable amounts of money, but also an area often subjected to cutbacks when the company is cost-saving.
A major survey has been launched by CBS’ Department of Operations Management in order to investigate the role and performance of marketing in the 1,000 largest Danish companies. The study focuses on whether companies measuring and aligning their marketing efforts with the company’s strategy perform differently than others. Moreover, the study attempts to analyse, whether the resource allocation according to the marketing mix departs from deliberate planning or is the result of routines and “business as usual”.
A survey is launched electronically and so far more than 200 respondents have answered the questionnaire. The department will present the preliminary results at a conference on 28 August at CBS. The half-day conference will be open for everyone for a small fee.

The Crisis in Foreign Language Skills in Denmark
Two studies of the future of foreign language skills have been commissioned by the Danish government in recent years. There is an urgent need for an in-depth analysis (as recommended by the EU, the Council of Europe, and the Nordic Council of Ministers) of the language policy challenges facing Denmark.
There are crisis symptoms at all levels of the educational system. German, French, and the Slavic languages are at risk of disappearing as university subjects. The capacity of Danish business, the government, and research ability to operate effectively in foreign cultures and languages is currently shrinking at an alarming pace. In this context a report from a conference at CBS 5 December 2007,
Fremmedsprog til fremtiden Sprogpolitiske udfordringer for Danmark, has just been published
(please download the report her). It illustrates how this situation can be remedied. It also presents top quality CBS research that has major international impact.
The corporate world’s insights and commitments are key dimension of a more proactive policy.

Strategic Market Creation: A New Perspective on Marketing and Innovation Management
Edited by Karin Tollin and Antonella Carù
The majority of existing innovation textbooks either discuss innovation too generally or lean towards a general management or technology perspective. This book combines the fields of marketing and innovation management, acknowledging the fact that marketing plays an important and proactive role in radical product, brand and market innovation processes. Structured around two key themes – ‘Knowledge, Processes, and Capabilities for Market Creation’ and ‘Co-Creation of Meaningful Experiences with Customers’, this book fills an important gap in the market.
CHINA - Business Opportunities in a Globalising Economy
Edited by Verner Worm
China has emerged as a focal point for both the business community and within the field of international business. An important way for China to achieve its position is through foreign direct investments (FDI’s). The book examines the main causes behind China’s impressive economic growth, particularly exploring the major role played by FDI’s in China.
The authors cover different aspects of China's economic globalisation from both macro- as well as micro-oriented approaches. From the macro-oriented perspective, the book focuses on FDIs role in itself providing a detailed distribution of the origin of the investment as well as their destination in different provinces. From the micro-oriented perspective, the book explains how guanxi capital can prove to be a sustainable competitive advantage.
