In the programme, you will focus on four main themes in addition to your foreign language:
• Economics
• Comparative Social Analysis
• Quantitative Business Research
• Intercultural Organisation.
Over the course of your studies, you conduct project-based research and analyse current issues. 2nd and 3rd year projects usually involve Asia related companies and organisations.
Economics
The purpose of these courses is to introduce you to basic economic theories and concepts including microeconomics. You will also learn about marketing and business strategy, as well as principles of both managerial accounting and corporate finance. Lastly, you will consider competitive dynamics in industries as well as international business.
Comparative Social Analysis
Through an introduction to the theoretical background for the analysis of different economic, political, social and cultural traditions, you will gain an understanding of the development and nature of different societies as well as Asian international relations.
Quantitative Business Research
In this area, you will be introduced to social science methods for quantitative and qualitative research across a range of subjects. This focus reinforces the academic rigour of the overall programme and integrates the various academic disciplines.
Intercultural Organisation
Communication studies combine the theory and the practice of communications in relation to corporate, national and international relations. Issues concerning internal and external organisational and cross-cultural communications are also integrated into the curriculum.
Languages: Chinese or Japanese
In language courses, you will develop all four language skills, e.g. reading, writing, speaking and listening, in either Chinese or Japanese. The courses provide in-depth knowledge of Japanese or Chinese business, society and culture. If you have no prior knowledge of either of these languages, you may be admitted to a oneyear preparatory language course.
