Restaurants
The Danish capital's over 2000 restaurants offer cuisine of just about every conceivable type from marinated reindeer, fresh-caught sea-foods, hot Parkistani, Indian or Thai curries to sushi, vegetarian, Chinese, French, Italian, Greek, Spanish, Turkish, Mexican, Indonesian and international.
The high point of Danish culinary culture is surely the cold table - det store kolde bord - often a buffet arrangement with a large variety of fish and meat dishes served at lunchtime (noon-2pm). Here smørrebrød - the open sandwich - that great speciality - dominates the scene - buttered (on black rye or white French bread) and topped with marinated herring, shellfish or prawns, frikadeller (meat rissoles), leverpostej (liver paté) and/or chesse - all washed down with frothy Danish large beer and/or ice-cold snaps (schnapps / aquavit) as a chaser. A major Danish gourmet experience!
Below we have made a small selection to help you on your way to some great restaurants.
