As any European city, Copenhagen has a lot churches – too many to mention here. However, we have selected the 3 main churches to visit.

Vor Frelsers Kirke

Vor Frelser Kirke was founded in 1696 and in 2006 a comprehensive restoration begins. The church is famous for its 400 steps climb to the top, and it is a fabulous and breath-taking experience. Especially because you have to walk up winding stairs on the outside of the steeple the last part of the way.

Vor Frue Kirke

Vor Frue Kirke is Copenhagen’s main cathedral, and is also the most active of the 3 churches mentioned here. The site has housed a church since 1209. The present building was consecrated in 1829, its predecessor having been destroyed in the bombardment of Copenhagen in 1807. It is also the church where the Royal wedding of Crown Prince Frederik and Princess Mary was held here.

Marmorkirken is inspired by the Peter’s Church in Rome, and with its big dome, it gives a beautiful view of Copenhagen. The church was founded in 1894, but the construction already started in 1749 by King Frederik V. The dome can be visited on Saturdays and Sundays.
