Course content, structure and teaching
The course introduces key traditions of thinking in international political economy emphasising their historical roots and their relations to neighbouring academic fields (notably economics, politics and international relations). It proceeds to focus on key issues in the contemporary political economy. It looks at the international political economy of trade, production, finance, and globalization. In so doing it focuses particular attention on the historical development, key actors, institutions, and norms shaping the international political economy in these areas. It uses this discussion also to anchor and deepen the understanding of the practical significance and use of analytical approaches.
Learning Objectives
The purpose of this course is provide the basic analytical tools and empirical knowledge required for analyzing the international political context in which business operates and which business shapes. At the end of the course, students are expected to:
· Recognize, describe and classify key theories and theoretical traditions in international political economy.
· Be able to identify central institutions and actors in the global political economy.
· Be able to use this basic knowledge to formulate research questions about international political economy and to answer these questions.
Type of examination, exam aids and assessment
Exam regulations:
Individual 24-hour home assignment, 10 page limit graded by teacher and internal censor on the 7-point scale.
Re-exam and make-up exam: When ill at the hand-in deadline or when the ordinary exam is failed, is a 4-hour written closed book exam. It is allowed to bring basic language dictionaries (e.g. Danish/English and English/Danish) to the exam. It is not allowed to bring specialized dictionaries (e.g. English/Danish dictionary on financial terms). Pocket calculators are not allowed.
