Prerequisite/progression of the course
The students must document a level in English equal to TOEFL 575 and a level in mathematics equal to Danish level B.
Course content, structure and teaching
Logistics and the transportation of people are core areas of this course. Consequently, this course aims at providing a thorough knowledge and understanding of the disciplines, both theoretically and applied to practical examples. Moreover, an insight into the frameworks and incentives behind transportation policy is aimed at. Some knowledge of the technological conditions is needed, but only at a descriptive level.
Learning Objectives
In the end of this course, the students should be able to:
Demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of the central models, concepts and theories presented through the courseCritically assess the value and relevance of models, concepts and theories presented through the course in relation to their practical application Systematically analyse the logistic situation and identify key logistic problemsSelect appropriate management tools to work towards a solutionIdentify key relationships and use theories of transportation and logistics to identify key characteristics of these relationships in order to optimise the firm’s objectives.Synthesise new solutions through the critical application of existing models and market knowledge to real life transportation and logistic problemsTo become familiar with the role of government in relation to logistics and transportation and the regulatory authorities in the market at different geo-political scalesTo understand the rationale for the existence of public sector activities in logistics and transportationTo understand the influences that change business environmentsRelate the theories, concepts and models presented in this course to others they are familiar with from other courses.
Type of examination, exam aids and assessment
4-hour individual written open book exam.
Exam aids: For this open book exam, students are allowed bring language dictionaries as well as literature and notes. The only electronic device allowed at the exam is a non programmable calculator (in other words, the following are NOT allowed: laptop, USB stick, mobile phone, etc).
