Prerequisite/progression of the course
A foundation in political science and international political economy
Course content, structure and teaching
The course provides the students with an understanding of how the business environment is changing in the European Union due to the single market and enlargement and how these changes lead to new kinds of constraints and opportunities for business. The course should provide students with 1) a basic understanding of integration theory; 2) an understanding of the development of the EU and 3) an understanding of key policy issues in the EU, major players and their (potential) impact on business.
Learning Objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to
- Describe and discuss key institutional structures of the EU.
- Describe and explain basic theories of EU integration.
- Formulate a simple research question with testable hypotheses relating to changes in EU policies and their impact on business opportunities in the EU.
- Select relevant data to produce justified answers to the research question relating such data to choice theory and concepts.
Type of examination, exam aids and assessment
Written group home assignment followed by an individual oral examination
Teaching methods
Lectures and group discussions.
