Course content, structure and teaching
Risk has become a central preoccupation in social, political and economic life. “Risk analysis” has become correspondingly central to states, international organizations, non-governmental organizations and firms of virtually all size and shapes. It shapes what their activities and their relations to the rest of the world. This course provides an entry point for understanding this ubiquitous phenomenon. It does so through a dual strategy which familiarizes participants with key theoretical concepts and developments in contemporary risk analysis as well as to the practice of political risk analysis. It will encourage reflection and critical analysis of
- the assumptions underlying political risk analysis,
- the role of risk analysis in business practices
- the consequences for governance in the global political economy
