USA - MSc IBP

John Mckinley

I come from the state of Colorado in the US and I am a student in the Master's of Science in International Business and Politics program. I like this program because of the way it incorporates business studies into a political framework. I am also very impressed with the teaching style and diverse faculty here at CBS. I have enjoyed a wide array of international teachers who have been very effective at bringing their professional knowledge and experience into the classroom.
In my spare time I try to enjoy the cosmopolitan setting here. Copenhagen has a great offering of cultural activities from museums and art galleries to live music venues where one can find both international and local acts performing everything from classical, jazz, blues and rock, to hip-hop, indie and electronic music. On the weekends I like to visit various parks, bicycling around the city and catching a film at the Cinemateket. It is incredibly easy to get around Copenhagen with public transportation, but the best way to get around is on a bike.
I have found a lot of Danish food that I enjoy including Frikadeller (meat balls), Sol over Gudhjem (open faced herring sandwich with egg), smørrebrød (any kind of open faced sandwich), and Danish Christmas food including flæskesteg, but my favorite Danish food is rugbrød (a dark bread) which can be served with almost anything on it.
The weather here is great in the summertime, and the autumn is really beautiful, but the winters are cold.
I was very surprised by the Danes’ excellent English skills, which I find to be both an advantage and a disadvantage. Although it is incredibly easy to get along in Copenhagen using only English, the fact that everyone speaks English means that I am never really forced to practice my Danish.
