Training

Better known as blood, sweat and tears

Since the great majority of the students I have had in competitions in the past are now consultants, I have a large network of working consultants out in the business world. Therefore, I can give you new participants an insight into how they make decisions, proposals, and presentations, and the consulting firms get a first-hand look at what CBS is currently producing.
Training consists of workshops from me, from a couple of consultants and then pulling it all together in practice cases from past competitions and new cases that are similar to what you will get at a competition. It's work! It's like taking a course for which you get no credit, but it's worth it and you will learn how to apply things to the real world - and how to communicate your proposals as best as you can. Case runs are usually done on the weekends, so the time takes as little away from your jobs and classes as possible. There is obviously no way to exactly simulate a competition, but these case runs are as close as we can get and absolutely invaluable for case competition preparation.

Schedule for Spring ( is in the competition forum for participants to access):
  • Three case runs are the absolute minimum before leaving for a competition. If I have the luxury of more time, we get in one, two, or three more. As the competitions take place, those teams drop out, but we start the semester with all 11 teams training together.
It's work. It's a lot of work. But it's worth it. You have not only my word on that but the word of past participants... many of whom are consultants now. (You might hate me during it all, but I can promise you that you'll thank me. I promise.)
