Application Process for Spring 2012 Competitions
1. Who is eligible to apply?
- Graduate competitions: Any student enrolled in a CBS masters program (full degree CBS students only – no exchange students)
- Undergraduate competitions: Any student currently in the third year of a CBS bachelor program (full degree CBS students only - no exchange students)
- You must be proficient in English at negotiation level.
- You must be at CBS and not on exchange during the semester in which the training and competition take place.
2. Am I good enough to apply?
You’ll never know unless you try! Grades are not the only criteria for a successful application. Your student relevant job experience and your business acumen is vital. “Elite” students are not the only ones to be chosen. That’s a myth with no truth behind it. However, participation in a competition will give you an edge that your theoretical studies cannot. THAT will put you in an elite group!
3. Can I apply as part of a ready-made group?
No. It’s good for me to know which other students you work well with, but the teams are put together across program lines to assure a good mix of background knowledge. It will take you out-of-the-box to work with students from other programs at CBS.
4. How do I apply? Send a CV (
with a photograph in the upper right-hand corner) and cover letter to CBS Case Coach Stephanie Hadler at
case@cbs.dk. Write your application
as though you are applying for a position at a consulting firm. Convince me to interview you for the job of consultant! For a quick idea of what to put in a CV and letter of application, take a look at
this slide show
from a Career Center workshop by CA. (You'll have to be logged in to e-campus.)
5. Required details in your CV:
- Name, postal address, email address and telephone number
- Photograph - profession, please, no beach scenes - in the right-hand upper corner of the CV
- CPR number or date of birth
- CBS program in which you are enrolled
6. Things to include in your cover letter (for a consulting job, remember?!)
- Expertise: which business area are you most comfortable with?
- What value will you add to a consulting team?
- A prioritized list of which competition you are interested in - if there are competitions at your level that you cannot attend because of exams, for example, or are not interested in applying for, please let me know.
- Anything else you feel would be relevant for me to know in order to hire you!
- Add enclosures with your grades from CBS to date, as well as your grades while on exchange if you went on exchange.
6. How much time does it take to participate? The training is intense and it will be like taking a fifth course – without getting ECTS credit for it! I attempt when possible to schedule the training in late afternoons and on the weekends. However, since there will be workshops with some of the consulting houses in Denmark, some of the training will be during regular classroom hours. You can read more about the training here:
Training
7. Does it cost me anything?
Only in terms of dedication, time, and learning! CBS pays for the flight to and from the competition, hotels and meals during the competition are provided, as well. So all you will need is any pocket money you wish to spend otherwise.
9. How do I get the application to you?
I want the application by email attachment or uploaded somewhere I can download it electronically.
- Send it to me at this email address: case@cbs.dk.
- Or you will find me at the Dalgas Have on the 2nd floor in the pink end, office 2V 041.
I look forward to seeing your application. Good luck and go for it - for yourself, for a greatly expanded network, for your learning toward the business world, for CBS!
