Center for Financial Law (CFL)
Center for Financial Law (CFL)
The Center for Financial Law (CFL) was established on 1 October 2003 with a view to further intensifying research activities and cooperation in the fields of credit law and capital market law and making them more visible.
The Center aims to be among the leading research centres in Europe in the field of financial law.
Furthermore, the Center's goal is to conduct financial law research, except for dissertations and the like, in cooperation with other researchers and practicians.
Another goal is to ensure the most adequate connection between research and teaching at CBS.
Highlights of 2004
The following highlights of 2004 – the Center's first year – deserve special mention:
• The research activity resulted in a substantial production, both in nominal terms and considering the fact that the main task of four staff members was to work on PhD projects. The Center published seven books, 12 articles in books, 21 articles in journals, one working paper and a number of works in the Other publications category
• The Center's visiting researcher scheme attracted interest. Under this scheme, researchers from other sectors work at CFL for a month on subjects within the Center's fields. The CFL staff provide academic assistance, and the visiting researchers participate in the Center's other arrangements. The Center also offers the traditional scheme, where researchers from universities in Denmark and abroad work at the Center for a short or longer period of time
• The Center held ten seminars, conferences etc. Its staff participated in and made presentations at conferences in Bergen, Brussels, London and Lund
• The credit law project 2002-2004, involving researchers from the Nordic universities meeting with a number of practicians from the financial and legal sectors, was completed. Ten seminars and conferences were held during the period under review, and seven volumes were published (of which four in 2004) in the credit law series (Den Kreditretlige Serie). The Center will seek to continue the project for another three-years period
• Two of the Center's staff members received prizes of honour for their research.
Academic profile & research strategy
The research at CFL centres on financial law in a wider sense. In principle, the subject-matter is all that is going on in the financial institutions. The main areas are banking, credit secured by mortgage on real property, insurance, stock exchange and pension, in customer relations as well as in institutional issues. The Center's activities are conducted in an interplay between internal researchers, visiting professors, specialist groups, and its research results are published on an ongoing basis. The Center staff teach under the CBS study programmes. Its research is applied as a basis for courses and also provides the academic framework for a number of seminars and conferences. Work is often done in small groups to ensure speedy and flexible experience exchange. The business community is involved whenever possible.
International cooperation is given high priority as an extension of existing working relations in the Nordic countries and in the form of new relations to similar research centres in the EU.
