Research Areas

The field of research of the Law Department is commercial law, i.e. the part of the legal system concerning problems relevant to the actors in the business environment (such as corporations, employees, consumers, interest groups and public agencies).
The research profile is coordinated with other activities of the faculty and the Copenhagen Business School in general. These activities include the teaching in commercial law provided to several of the study programmes at Copenhagen Business School - in particular the HA(jur.)/Cand.merc.(jur) and the Cand.merc.aud. programmes. The Law Department's research is by and large dominated by a common methodology in that all participate in the development of a method of commercial law, characterised by a functional academic approach, an integrated domestic and international, in particular European, point of view, and, in a number of cases, an integrated legal and economic approach exploring the legal dimensions of economics as well as the economic dimensions of law.
European integration law is an important area for the Law Department and its staff. It is concerned with the rules which, through the EU, EEA etc., unite Europe and constitute a foundation for a common internal market. The Law Department is by virtue of international publishing, international symposia and seminars, as well as networking, one of the leading centres of European integration law in the Nordic countries. This is reflected by the fact that the staff of the Law Department have participated in evaluation committees abroad concerning professorships and dissertations.
In the early 1990s the Law Department had its primary strength in the areas of credit law, labour law, competition law and contract law. The position of the Law Department's research in these areas was created by a rather limited number of researchers. Partly due to an increase of younger researchers during recent years, the research programme of the Law Department has now been expanded to include other areas as well, e.g. law and economics, company law, foundation law, market law, intellectual property rights, environmental law, international law, tax law and information technology law etc.
In April 2001 the Law Department's Information Technology Law Research Group organised a European seminar on "Legal Aspects of Electronic Commerce" with speakers from the EC Commission as well as researchers from German, English and Nordic universities and other academic institutions. A collection of articles based on the papers presented at the conference was published i 2001. I 2001 also books on "Immaterialret og IT" (Intellectual Property Law and IT) and "E-handelsret"(E-commerce Law) were published.
In November 2001 the "Second Nordic Research Symposium on the Law of Charitable Institutions" was held, planned and chaired by professor, lic.jur. Lennart Lynge Andersen.
In December 2001 a seminar on the EU-Charter was held, arranged by professor, dr. jur. Jens Fejø.
The range of the research activities is illustrated by the "Julebog" (Christmas book) published yearly since 1996 by the Law Department with articles written by the staff.. "Julebog 2001" (Christmas Book 2001) contains articles on the following subjects:
  • Harmonization of the Contract Law in the EU
  • Access to Sport Events in the EU illustrated by an English-Danish Conflict
