In the spring of 2004, ground was broken for “The Wedge”, an extension to the CBS campus situated between the Frederiksberg Centre and Nordre Fasanvej. The company of architects Boje Lundgaard & Lene Tranberg designed the visionary project comprising a five-storey atrium building with open decks facing an open courtyard that extends through all five floors.
The underlying concept of “The Wedge” is a dynamic ground floor that acts as a continuation of the campus terrain extending into the atrium of the building. The atrium roof consists of large circular skylights, which cast light downward in order to create a variety of unusual shadows and light effects depending on time of day and season. The structure and shape of “The Wedge” underscores the intrinsic diversity of CBS and provides a prominent setting for the school.
A green walkway
The Solbjerg campus is an open grassy space dotted with groves of red oaks. A walkway runs along the full length of the campus - a main artery linking the forecourt at Solbjerg Metro station with Solbjerg Plads. The Frederiksberg section of Greater Copenhagen’s green cycle- and footpath network also cut though the campus. The entire campus area is, thus, a recreational oasis for CBS students and staff as well as the citizens of Frederiksberg.
Student residence facility
The possibility of establishing a student residence facility primarily for international students is being investigated. A large on-campus student facility is a pipeline plan - this time as part of one of CBS’ new focus areas, Student Services. The building will house facilities for social and cultural activities, study groups and student organisations, as well as work-out rooms, assembly hall, cafés and a devotional room.
