Dalgas Have

In 1988, Dalgas Have, drawn by Henning Larsen Architects, at Frederiksberg was finished. The building is the site for CBS' langauge and communication programmes.

Dalgas Have

Dalgas Have is owned by the Danish Pension Fund for Engineers, which has made a lease agreement with CBS. The building has a floor area of 22,000 sqm. It was designed on the basis of a wish to create a building that interact with the changeable Danish daylight. An attempt to establish this interaction was done through a division of the facade into smaller units in order to increase the inflow of light.

The main entrance leads directly to an octagonal three-storey high top-lighted main hall, from which openings, stairs and lifts provide direct access to common facilities such as lecture halls, library, book store and cafeteria. The roof light of the main hall is reflected and activated in a reflecting pool with a fountain. From the main hall, which is located at the symmetric axis of the building, two three-storey high central streets with roof light branch off on each side. The central streets wind up in narrower, analogue squares - each in its own colour of orientation (rose-pink, turquoise), which are reflected on the walls.
Behind the two side squares there are open patios, which provide the nearby classrooms and hallways with direct daylight. In connection with the central streets there are four wells, from which the roof light transforms through a powerful blue upper part and is then reflected in 12,000 small quadratic mirrors. All the offices have either two facade windows or one facade window supplemented with a roof light.

The halls and streets create a kind of daylight house, which in cooperation with the white primary colours of the house reflect the change of light and the journey of the sun throughout the day.
Henning Larsen has also designed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Ryadh and the new Opera House at Dokøen in Copenhagen.
