CBS Double Degree with The Belk College of Business, UNCC

Option for the Applied Economics and Finance (AEF) concentration

Copenhagen Business School and The Belk College of Business at UNC Charlotte in North Carolina are collaborating on an exciting double degree programme in Economics, which will provide students with an unparallel opportunity to experience two unique economic systems.

If you have chosen or are planning to choose the MSc with a concentration in Applied Economics and Finance, you do not want to let this opportunity pass you by. The double degree agreement is exclusively for the AEF concentration and 5 selected students from each university will have the chance to pursue this unique option.

Pursuing a double degree means that not only will you obtain a Master of Science from CBS, you will also obtain an American Master of Science in Economics with a concentration in Finance (the Quantitative Finance option) – without prolonging your studies.

The UNC Charlotte degree is designed for students seeking careers in banking or other financial institutions, as well as regulatory bodies dealing with financial markets. The CBS degree provides students with a solid understanding of finance, macroeconomics, and industrial economics. Students completing the double degree programme are therefore prepared for analytical and management positions that require an international perspective and an ability to integrate economic analysis and advanced quantitative methods.

Double Degree Setup

1st Year at CBS

2nd Year at UNCC

1st and 2nd semesters

3rd and 4th semesters

Complete the mandatory courses of the AEF programme

  1. Complete three mandatory courses, which account for 22.5 ECTS credits:
    i. Advanced Macroeconomic Theory
    ii. Advanced Microeconomic Theory
    iii. Financial Econometrics
  2. Complete one 7.5 ECTS elective
  3. Complete the following three courses, which amount to 30 ECTS and are transferred to the CBS degree as a Masters thesis:
    i. Research Methods for Economists I
    ii. Research Methods for Economists II
    iii. Graduate Thesis Research


Valuable Tips

  • Visa Application – Start applying for your visa well in advance as it can take time to obtain it. Make an appointment with the American Embassy as soon as you have received your admission documents from UNCC.
  • Transportation – It is strongly recommended that you have access to a car, while studying at UNCC. Public transportation is limited, so it will be necessary with a car for your basic daily tasks such as shopping and going to campus, if you choose to live off campus.
  • Scholarships – You are encouraged to apply for extra financial support to study abroad. It is possible to apply for a variety of private sources that give support to study abroad, and it will be particularly worth the effort for you to apply for The Denmark-America Foundation and Fulbright Commission grant.
  • Courses – You only have to choose one elective, but make sure that you choose wisely. It can be recommended that you consider the courses offered by The Department of Finance and in particular the courses offered for the programme Master in Mathematical Finance, as they build upon knowledge gained from your first year of the AEF programme.
