HRM2008 - HRM, Knowledge Processes and Organizational Performance: In Search of (Micro)Foundations
|
|
September 18-19, 2008 at Copenhagen Business School
- Center for Strategic Management and Globalization
Aim of the conference
Whereas the knowledge-based view appears to be paying increasing attention to the linkages between organizational practices and (the outcomes of) knowledge processes, implying attention to individuals and individual heterogeneity, the Strategic Human Resource Management (SHRM) field has taken a more collective level (aggregate, reduced form) approach, reasoning in terms of “human capital pools,” “systems for managing people,” “HRM architecture”, etc. Because little attention is paid to the level of individuals, it is not too unfair to characterize the treatment of the linkages between HRM practices, knowledge and organizational performance as a black box.
The overall purpose of the mini-conference is to build HRM (micro)foundations for the HRM-Knowledge-Performance link as being rooted in individual behaviors.
The conference begins with keynote presentations by two senior HR executives of Danish multinational companies. Lone Hass (Senior Vice-President HR, COWI) and Elmer Mortensen (Head of Group HRD, Rambøll) will present their ideas about what kind of issues related to knowledge sharing their respective companies need to address both in a short and a long term, what kind of dilemmas management is facing with regards to knowledge sharing, both in Denmark and especially internationally. We then will invite the distinguished top international researchers in the field of Strategic Human Resource Management to join a panel for discussing issues raised in both presentations. The panel will be chaired by Paul Sparrow (Director of the Centre for Performance-led HR and Professor of International Human Resource Management at Lancaster University). The panel debate will be followed by general discussion.
The academic part of the conference includes the traditional paper presentations sessions as well as untraditional workshops, where future research agenda will be created and discussed. This part of the conference will be taking place between 13.00, the 18th of September and 18.30, the 19th of September.
