Professor Morten Bennedsen
Morten Bennedsen is Professor at the Department of Economics, Copenhagen Business School. He obtained a Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University in 1998, a Master Degree With Distinction from London School of Economics and a Bachelor Degree from University of Copenhagen. Morten Bennedsen’s research areas are corporate finance and corporate governance. He has done research on closely held corporations, capital structures, venture capital, investor protection, ownership structures, family firms and privatisation. His work has been published in top finance and economics journals, such as
Journal of Financial Economics, Journal of Political Economics, Quarterly Journals of Economics and Journal of Public Economics. Morten Bennedsen is also Research Director at the Centre for Economics and Business Research (

) where he is responsible for the centre’s research program within corporate finance. He has served as an advisor on corporate financial policy for the Ministry of Economics and Business in Denmark and has done consultancy work for a.o. the Danish Ministry of Foreign affairs and the World Bank
Professor Mike Burkart
Mike Burkart is Gösta Olson Professor of Finance at the Stockholm School of Economics (SSE). He is a Research Fellow of the Center for Economic Policy Research (CEPR), a Research Associate of the European Corporate Governance Institute (ECGI) and a Senior Research Associate of the Financial Markets Group (FMG) at the London School of Economics. He received a PhD in Economics from London University (LSE). His research interests are in theoretical corporate finance, in particular in financial contracting and corporate governance. His work has been published in journals such as the American Economic Review, Journal of Finance, Journal of Political Economy and the Quarterly Journal of Economics.
Mr. Christophe Clerc
Christophe Clerc is European Counsel at the law firm Shearman & Sterling LLP. He practices corporate and securities laws for major international groups, with a focus on cross-border mergers & acquisitions and capital market work. He was closely involved in the implementation in France of the Takeover Directive, and more specifically in the design of the new defensive measures which have been included in French law. He is a member of the Legal Panel (“Comité Juridique”) of the Association Nationale des Sociétés par Actions. Christophe Clerc graduated from the Universities of Law of Paris II and Paris I. He holds a diploma of the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris, with an emphasis on business and finance. He is also a Secrétaire de la Conférence du Stage, a century old legal society selecting 12 lawyers each year to represent the Paris Bar in France and abroad and do pro bono criminal defense work.
Mr. Pierre Delsaux
Pierre Delsaux was born in Belgium in 1957. After studying Law at the University of Liège, he obtained his Master of Law at the Northwestern University in 1983. He was Legal Secretary at the Court of Justice from 1984 to 1987. His career within the Commission has included working in the Directorate General Competitition (1991-1994) and the Directorate General Internal Market . He is currently Director of Free movement of capital, Company Law and Corporate Governance. He was also Secretary of the Lamfalussy Group.
Dr. Daniel Ferreira
Daniel Ferreira has been a lecturer at the Department of Management at LSE since September 2006. He holds a Ph. D. in Economics from the University of Chicago (2002). Previously, he was an assistant professor at the New University of Lisbon (2005-06), at SITE-Stockholm School of Economics (2003-05), and at the Getulio Vargas Foundation at Rio (2002-03). His research focuses primarily on theoretical and empirical issues related to corporate governance. In addition, his research interests span many fields, such as organizational economics and corporate finance. Some of his papers have been published or accepted for publication in the Journal of Finance, the Review of Financial Studies, and the RAND Journal of Economics, amongst others.
Professor Julian Franks
Julina Franks, BA (Sheffield) MBA (Columbia) PhD (London), is Professor of Finance and is the Academic Director of London Business School’s Centre for Corporate Governance. Julian is widely published and his research focuses on bankruptcy and financial distress, corporate ownership and control, cost of capital and regulation. Recently his work on ownership and control (with Colin Mayer and Stefano Rossi) has won two international prizes. Two other papers of his have won best paper awards by the Journal of Financial Intermediation. He is Associate Editor of five finance journals, a member of various advisory boards and consults widely. He served as a member of the DTI-Treasury committee for reviewing the UK’s insolvency code and was a member of one of The Company Law Review’s committees on corporate governance. He is an advisor to Ofcom and BAA on regulatory matters and is on an appeals panel for the New Zealand Competition Commission. Recently, he advised (with Professor Brealey) The Office of Constitutional Affairs on the issue of outside equity for law firms. He is a non-executive director of OXERA and is on the international advisory boards of Stern Stewart and S&P. He has been Visiting Professor at the University of California at both Berkeley and Los Angeles.
Mr. Anthony GF Fuller, CBE
Anthony Fuller is president of Fuller, Smith and Turner PLC. He started work with Fuller's, a traditional, family-run brewery in London, in 1963 following a period of four years in the Life Guards. He was appointed director of the brewery in 1967, becoming property director in 1970. In 1973 he was appointed a director of Griffin Inns Limited, managed pubs subsidiary company of Fuller, Smith and Turner PLC. In 1976 he was appointed chairman of Griffin Inns Limited, and in 1978 became managing director of Fuller, Smith and Turner PLC, becoming non-executive chairman in 2002. He was founder and chairman of the Independent Family Brewers of Britain (IFBB) from 1993-2005. He was master of the Brewers' Company 1986/7 (one of the City of London's Livery Companies) and was chairman of the Brewers' Society 1986/89. He was awarded the CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) by the Queen in 1990 for his services to the brewing industry and his charitable work. From 1992-2004 he was non-executive director of Mentzendorff & Co. Ltd. He was chairman of the London Region of the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) 1995/97; president of the Shire Horse Society 2000-2002; and vice president of The Brewers of Europe from 2005 to 2007.
Professor Jose Garrido Garcia
Jose M. Garrido Garcia was born in Madrid in 1965. He gained a LLB at the University of Alcalá in Spain, a LLM at the University of London and a PhD at the University of Bologna. He is currently Professor of Commercial and Corporate Law at the University of Castilla - La Mancha. Formerly he was General Counsel at the Spanish Securities Commission and a member of the High Level Group of Company Law Experts of the European Union (Winter Group). He is a member of the European Corporate Governance Forum and of the Spanish Commission for Corporate Governance.
Dr. Hans Hirt
Hans heads the European Corporate Governance and Engagement Team which is responsible for developing and implementing corporate governance policies, shareholder engagement programmes and implementation of company specific engagement strategies in Continental Europe. In this function he oversees the promotion of good corporate governance practice and regulation across Europe. He is the principal author of the Hermes Corporate Governance Principles and together with Colin Melvin wrote Corporate Governance and Performance, a brief review and assessment of the evidence for a link between corporate governance and performance. Prior to Hermes, Hans spent two years with the leading international law firm Ashurst during which he worked in the corporate, banking and litigation departments. Whilst at Ashurst, he was seconded to the Court of Appeal where he held the position of judicial assistant to the Master of the Rolls, Lord Phillips. Before joining Ashurst, he was a researcher and teaching assistant at the London School of Economics. Throughout his academic and professional career, he has carried out extensive research covering in particular corporate governance, European company law and shareholder remedies and has published widely in these areas in leading corporate law journals. Recent publications in journals and books include: 'The Review of the Role and Effectiveness of Non-Executive Directors: A Critical Assessment with Particular Reference to the German Two-tier Board System' (2003), 'Regulation of Directors' Remuneration: The German Approach, the DTI's Consultation Paper and the Way Forward' (2004), 'Freedom of Establishment, International Company Law and the Comparison of European Company Law Systems after the ECJ's Decision in Inspire Art Ltd' (2004), 'The Company’s Decision to Litigate Against its Directors: Legal Strategies to Deal with the Board of Directors’ Conflict of Interest' (2005), 'The Enforcement of Directors’ Duties pursuant to the Aktiengesetz: Present Law and Reform in Germany' (2005), 'Der Zusammenhang zwischen Corporate Governance und Performance' (2007). He has also published a book entitled 'The Enforcement of Directors' Duties in Britain and Germany' (2004). Hans obtained a Ph.D. from the London School of Economics where he was a Wedderburn Scholar after gaining an LL.M. at the University of Glasgow. He also has a B.A. Honours in European Business Administration, holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Law and the Securities & Investment Institute (SII) Diploma and is a Diplom-Betriebswirt (ESB-Reutlingen).
Mr. Finn Junge Jensen
Finn Junge Jensen is the President of Copenhagen Business School/Handelshøjskolen – a position to which he was first appointed in 1987. In addition, he is the author of publications within the fields of organisational theory and management and has worked as a consultant for private and public enterprises in strategic development, management and implementation of organisational changes as well as having conducted several international evaluations of universities and institutes of higher learning. He is also chairman of the Board of Egmont H. Petersens Kollegium and The Symbion Fund and is a member of the Board of several companies and foundations.
Professor Joseph McCahery
Joseph A. McCahery is Professor of Corporate Governance and Business Innovation at the University of Amsterdam Faculty of Economics and Econometrics. He is also Professor of International Business Law at Tilburg University Faculty of Law. Professor McCahery is also a Research Fellow at the Institute of International Corporate Governance and Accountability, George Washington University and Research Associate at the European Corporate Governance Institute (ECGI) in Brussels. In addition to having held visiting positions at Leiden University, Tias Business School, he is also the Leo Goldschmidt Visiting Professor of Corporate Governance at Brussels University (ULB). He serves on the boards of several leading academic journals. Professor McCahery studied for his PhD in Law at Warwick University, where he taught until 1997. He has written widely on banking and securities law, corporate law, corporate governance, the political economy of federalism, and taxation. His publications have appeared in major academic journals, such as the Journal of Corporation Law, Georgetown Law Journal, and Journal of Corporate Law Studies. In addition to his academic activities, Professor McCahery is a consultant to the OECD, Centre for European Policy Studies and several financial institutions and research agencies. His consultancy activities involve corporate governance and securities regulation issues and M&A. He is currently co-director of the Amsterdam Centre for Corporate Finance.
Mr. Peter Montagnon
Peter Montagnon has been Director of Investment Affairs at the Association of British Insurers since October 2000. The job involves representing the policy views of the insurance industry as major investors, with a focus on corporate governance, market development, regulatory and European issues. As part of the ABI’s corporate governance activity he is involved in facilitating dialogue between company boards and investors as well as working with the authorities on legislative and regulatory issues. He is a member of the European Corporate Governance Forum, formed recently by the European Commission, and Chairman of the International Corporate Governance Network. He joined the ABI after two decades as a journalist on the Financial Times where he was successively Capital Markets Editor, World Trade Editor, Head of the Lex Column, which provides market comments, and Asia Editor. Between 1973 and 1980 he was a financial journalist with Reuters with assignments in Hong Kong, Zurich and Washington. He has an MA in Modern Languages from the University of Cambridge, England.
Dr. Anete Pajuste
Anete Pajuste is assistant professor of finance at the Riga Business School. She is also a research associate at the Stockholm Institute of Transition Economies. Her primary research focus is on the issues of investor protection and corporate governance. Her articles have appeared in several journals including the Journal of Banking and Finance, the Oxford Review of Economic Policy, and the Economics of Transition. Professor Pajuste received a Ph.D. in finance from the Stockholm School of Economics in 2004. During her doctoral studies, she spent a year as a visiting research fellow at the Harvard University, and a semester at the European Central Bank. Before beginning her doctoral studies, she was the head of research at the asset management division of Rietumu Banka (Latvia). Professor Pajuste serves as a consultant to small and medium-size companies in Latvia advising on financial planning, investment management, and firm valuation issues.
Mr. Philippe Prouvost
Mr Prouvost is a graduate of the University of Paris 2 Law School (JD and LLM), The University of Tulane Law School (LLM) and the Institute for Comparative Legal Studies (Paris). From 1996 to 1998 Mr. Prouvost worked as a Junior Associate for the law firm Archibald Andersen (1996-1998). Subsequently he worked as Senior Legal Counsel – Mergers and Acquisitions for the Central Legal Department of the Axa Group before joining the Pernod-Ricard Group in 2002 as Group Corporate Legal Counsel with responsibility for Mergers & Acquisitions, Financing, Securities, Business Development.
Mr. Lars Rebien Sørensen
Lars Rebien Sørensen is the president and Chief Executive Officer of Novo Nordisk A/S. Born in 1954, he gained a Masters degree in forestry from Copenhagen's Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University and, in 1983, a BSc in International Economics from the Copenhagen Business School. He joined Novo Nordisk in 1982, working in its Enzymes Marketing department. He was made a member of Corporate Management in 1994, and in 2000 was appointed President and CEO. Lars Rebien Sørensen is a member of the Board of ZymoGenetics, Inc, US, and DONG Energy A/S, Denmark, as well as a member of the Bertelsmann AG Supervisory Board, Germany.
Mr Christian Strenger
Mr. Strenger graduated as Master of Business Administration from the University of Cologne in 1969. He subsequently held various management positions within the financial sector before serving as Deutsche Banks Chief Executive for Investment Banking in North America from 1986 to 1991 and Managing Director and CEO for Germany's and Europe's largest mutual fund manager DWS Investment GmbH, Frankfurt/Main from 1991 to 1999. Mr. Strenger’s current activities includes being an adviser in capital markets, corporate finance and asset management matters. Mr. Strenger is a board member of: DWS Investment GmbH, Frankfurt; Fraport AG, Frankfurt, The Germany Funds, New York (Chairman) and Hermes Focus Asset Management Europe Limited, London. In addition, Mr. Strenger is a member of the German Government Commission on 'Corporate Governance as well as the Capital Markets Committee of the German Ministry of Finance. Finally, Mr. Strenger is a member of the Private Sector Advisory Group of the World Bank - OECD Global Corporate Governance Forum.
Mr. Jaap Winter
Jaap Winter is a partner at De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek. He specialises in corporate law, corporate governance and corporate litigation. Jaap Winter advises a number of corporate clients and institutional investors on corporate governance developments in the Netherlands and in Europe. As Chairman of the EU High Level Group of Company Law Experts, member of the EU Corporate Governance Forum and member of the Dutch Corporate Governance Committee chaired by Mr. Tabaksblat he plays a prominent role in corporate law developments in Europe and the Netherlands. Jaap is a professor of international company law at the University of Amsterdam and was a visiting professor at Columbia Law School in New York in 2003. Jaap regularly speaks at conferences across Europe. He is the co-author of an authoritative company law handbook and has written many other publications on corporate law, capital markets and insolvency. He is a member of the Supervisory Board of the Dutch securities regulator AFM.
