CRIT3 - A World-class Translation Research Environment

Language and communication are central to success in a globalized world. A large proportion of an organization's knowledge is encoded in text documents, and a large proportion of the communication is based on text and speech. While this may be manageable in small businesses with few employees and few languages, the challenges can be substantial in businesses with employees and customers speaking many different languages. In these businesses, language may easily become an obstacle to communication, and getting the right information to the right people in the right language may be a key challenge.
The vision behind the CRIT3 Translation Research Environment is to produce research which will help businesses address these problems efficiently through a deeper understanding of languages, language processes, language technology, and how they are used in businesses. We focus particularly on translation processes and translation systems, but our research also deals with other aspects of language, language processes, and language technologies.
CRIT3 is staffed by researchers from the Center for Research and Innovation in Translation and Translation Technology (CRITT) and researchers from the Computational Linguistics Research Group at the Department of International Language Studies and Computational Linguistics .
