Multi-disciplinarity
The academic point of departure for CBS Centre for Corporate Social Responsibility (cbsCSR) is multi-disciplinary. cbsCSR embraces many different academic frameworks, including economic, sociological, philosophical, anthropological perspectives, discourse analysis and organization theory. The emphasis is particularly on qualitative studies. Two different research perspectives can be singled out: an organizational perspective and a social perspective. The organizational perspective emphasizes the internal relations of organizations and focuses on management technologies, business strategies and corporate identity and communication.
Social Perspective
The social perspective emphasizes the relations between organization and society and focuses on public issues and debates, nationally and internationally, and on the interplay between business, politics, the mass media, NGOs, political consumers, etc. The overall goal of cbsCSR is to provide valuable research on the nature, construction, functions and effects of corporate values and responsibility.
cbsCSR Research Community
cbsCSR consists of a loosely coupled network. Members are and will primarily be colleagues from the research community at CBS and other Danish universities. cbsCSR seeks to provide an attractive framework for research and teaching. The Danish research community in the area of corporate values and responsibility is diverse and operates in small isolated enclaves. cbsCSR wishes to contribute to increased transparency around existing research initiatives in order to promote dialogue and exchange of knowledge.
Non-academic organizations represent another vital group to address for the cbsCSR network: leaders of private and public enterprises, governmental bodies, NGOs etc. They constitute an important network within the loosely coupled cbsCSR family, and cbsCSR will initiate activities aimed at attracting members of this network in order to ensure a continued dialogue between academic researchers and business practitioners.
International Network
cbsCSR wants to place itself firmly on the international landscape for research and teaching in corporate values and responsibility. The Centre's existing international network consists of a large number of highly reputed organizations, among these are Aspen Institute, Institute of Social and Ethical AccountAbility, EBEN (European Business Ethics Network), CSR Europe, Business for Social Responsibility, Social Venture Network, Center for Ethics and Economics (Stockholm Business School) as well as research groups at leading universities throughout the world.
