Strategic Entrepreneurship and Management Innovation

Increasing interest has centered on the dynamics of strategy, for example, how firms upgrade and renew strategic resources through entrepreneurial activities. Relatedly, interest has emerged in how firms can deploy innovative organizational designs and management processes that are strategic resources in their own right. SMG work in this research stream is done in the following projects:
1. Entrepreneurship in an organizational context: The overall purpose is to understand how organizational design and employee characteristics influence the entrepreneurial process in firms. This projects aims at  conceptualizing firm-level entrepreneurship in terms of the theory of the firm (e.g., Foss & Klein, 2012) and organizational design theory. Empirically, the project builds on a major empirical survey (db-respondent design) of
the 3,000 largest Danish firms, undertaken in 2009 in cooperation with Statistics Denmark, as well as the Danish labor market data base, IDA. Work under this project is supported by a grant from the Danish Social Science Research Council.
2. Management innovation: This project examines the incidence, drivers, consequences, and organizational aspects of management innovations in Danish firms. SMG work on management innovation includes a series of case studies of management innovations in Danish firms (Foss, Pedersen, Pyndt and Schultz, 2011) and studies based on a survey of management innovation in Danish firms (Harder, 2011).
