My research centers on the role of non-state actors (mostly business) in global politics. I am interested in the development of approaches that can adequately capture and analyze the role of non-state actors. I work primarily with sociological and constructivist approaches focusing on practices. I have been particularly interested in the potential of drawing on Bourdieu's work to look at global politics and in working with advertisement, images and film as part of the study of practices. My current empirical research has a two-fold focus. I work on commercial practices, analyzing the private security industry and on the politics of risk management and I am of course particularly interested in the overlap of these two.
