Maersk Line, IBM, ISO og US Department of Justice har alle bidraget væsentligt til verdenssamfundets udvikling. Min faglige hovedinteresse er virksomheders og offentlige organisationers udvikling og deres rolle i samfundsudviklingen i Danmark, Europa og Nordamerika. Jeg arbejder med disse forhold i min forskning, projektvejledning og undervisning. Jeg har specielt set på samspillet mellem virksomhedernes organisatoriske og teknologiske udvikling i en national og international kontekst. Mit teoretiske udgangspunkt er socialkonstruktivisme.
Jeg er i gang med et komparativt studie af IT-industriens udvikling i USA, Storbritannien, (Vest-)Tyskland og Frankrig fra slutningen af 1800-tallet til 1970'ene, hvor mit hovedfokus er samspillet mellem industri, marked og stat. Studiet af hulkortindustrien fra slutningen af 1800-tallet til anden verdenskrig ar afsluttet og udkommer som en bog i 2009. Jeg er nu i gang med at studere main-frame computer producenternes udvikling. Desuden deltager jeg i European Science Foundation-projektet The Emergence and Governance of Critical Transnational Infrastructures (Eurocrit). Mit projekt her hedder Air Traffic Control: Facilitating Transnational Trust trough Governance and Technology.
