Jeg forsker og underviser i innovation og industriel udvikling. Jeg undersøger, hvilke mekanismer påvirker teknisk og social innovation? Hvorfor varierer innovationernes antal, indhold og succes fra et land til et andet og fra en virksomhed til en anden? Hvilke roller har forskellige institutionelle og individuelle innovationsaktører i firmaer, universiteter og regeringskontorer?
Jeg har studeret industriel udvikling i en række brancher, bl.a. energi, informationsteknologi, kommunikation, lufttrafik, og rådgivende ingeniører. Min forskning omfatter komparative historie studier af innovation i Frankrig, Storbritannien, Tyskland og USA. Studier af industriel udvikling i Danmark. Min approach til innovation og industriel udvikling kombinerer teknologi, markedsføring, firmaets organisation og økonomi, og jeg studerer innovation i netværk af firmaer, regeringsinstitutioner og universiteter. Mit nuværende forskningsprojekt drejer sig om at åbne innovationssystemernes black box for bedre at forstå innovationsprocesser. Projektet bygger på en sammenligning af ændringerne i innovationssystemerne i Storbritannien, Tyskland og USA.
