Today we can get much more medical information about ourselves than we could just five years ago. Healthy people get tested for future risks and are faced with the question: What do I do with this information? Assistant Professor Laurel Austin is concerned with individual risk management and decision making. How do humans think of risks and how do they manage? She talks about the consequences of increased risk knowledge and according to her, humans are not good at evaluating probability, which risk management is all about. She is developing a framework for studying individual or shared medical risk management and her goal is to help medical professionals and patients in how to deal with risks.
