Vision:
The UFO research group aims to investigate adult learning processes and outcomes in general and foreign language learning processes and outcomes in particular in a 21st century setting of social media. Collaborative, integrative yet personalized learning processes are at the centre of the group's research, and results should contribute to national as well as international research within the field of foreign language university didactics. The UFO research group aims to be an active partner in collaboration with other Danish or international research groups pursuing similar or related goals. The UFO research group aims to actively disseminate its findings at seminars, conferences etc. to the benefit of the university community.
In concrete projects, the UFO group addresses issues in the facilitation of language learning for tomorrow’s globalization ambassadors, who may contribute to national as well as international growth through their knowledge and skills as interculturally competent employees in organizations and companies.
The research group is involved in ‘engaged scholarship’ through very close cooperation with ao the upper-secondary school sector in Denmark, through active collaboration with Danish and international companies that work within social media and it has strongly influenced the development of the (foreign) language learning ICT platform StudyBook in cooperation with Podio. The research carried out is empirical and problem-oriented, it uses qualitative and quantitative methods to investigate how social media may interact with foreign language learning requirements in order to supply effective learning environments that appeal to students of the 21st century.
Mission:
The UFO research group investigates university students' learning processes and foreign language learning processes in a context of web 2.0 solutions. Research is concentrated around learning processes in case-based foreign language learning through the application of qualitative and quantitative research methods. Focus is on learning processes and learning outcomes primarily within the field of language pragmatics - face, politeness, indirectness. In addition, the UFO research group is engaged in an exchange of experience about didactic methods to support learning processes in general and language learning processes in particular with a view to professionalizing university students' oral communicative competencies.
