I’m particularly interested in the link between architecture and organization: between the organizational design process and client organization, on the one hand, and the architectural design process and the architect, on the other. In order to explore this link and its implications, I study the increasing interest in formalized end user participation in building projects, as a vehicle to inform practice and induce change. In these engagement processes, a substantial group of client representatives are invited into the architectural design process to provide relevant input about the activities that the future building is to accommodate. Here, users are given the chance to influence not only the design of the new building, but also the rationale upon which the design is being based: a rationale that may reflect the current organizational design, while concurrently designate an organizational redesign. The structure indicates that organizational design and architectural design might constitute one another in a mutual relationship. The potentiality and implications of such a reciprocal relationship is the main focus of my research.
