Guest lecture on University Governance by Professor Scott Masten
Academic Governance: From Bologna to Berkeley
Abstract:
The Danish University Governance system was radically transformed about ten years ago. The idea was to abandon an essentially democratic form of governance and to put in its place a more firm-like governance structure with boards comprising a majority of external members. But what are the virtues and drawbacks of the two governance structures? Professor Masten discusses this question both theoretically and empirically, drawing on a unique historical data set, which is rich with contemporary data and also goes back to the middle ages.
Professor Masten will talk for 35 minutes and then the floor will be open for discussion. All are invited to participate in the discussion
