Fredagsseminar på Institut for Informatik

Professor Roberto Zicari will present two papers in progress:
1) "Winning through incremental innovation: The case of MySQL AB"
Jesper Holck, Volker Mahnke, and Roberto Zicari.
We have conducted an empirical research to explore how entrants win substantial market acceptance, based on a series of incremental software innovations supported by an open source software development process, and a unique web-based proprietary business model.
Against the odds of a large installed customer base of competitors, substantial complementary assets under control of market incumbents, and deep pockets of incumbents, we investigated the competitive processes a case company - MySQL AB - employed to establish a sustainable foothold in the markets for database software.
2) "Reputation, framing strategies and user choice of content on the Web: an Empirical Study"
Ioanna Constantiou, Natascha Hoebel, Roberto V. Zicari
We have performed a set of experiments conducted online to explore the Internet user choice of information services in the form of online news. The research focused on the interaction between background and local context effects in the individual choice. In particular, the tradeoffs between the reputation of the source and the framing strategies of the website manager in the form of enriched content (e.g. source bundled with a picture or a video) were explored. The experiments involved hypothetical choices or matching tasks.
